About the Tours

Our tours are based out of Pt. Pirie & Melrose in South Australia, which is an easy 3 hour drive north from Adelaide. To anyone who hasn’t considered a tour like the likes of these, let me say, while it is nice to just get on a bike on ride, these days the lack of land access is a major drawback. Our aim is to have escorted rides on private/government land, but by keeping the numbers down and more like a group of guys on a weekend ride. We aim to keep motorcycle/landowners on a friendly footing.

Port Pirie is at the southern end of the Historic Flinders Ranges, which stretch some 430km. The Southern Flinders offers the trail/adventure rider all types of riding. From rolling hills to rocky ridge tops, pine plantations to fire trails and a touch of the semi arid out back with flat mesa topped hills. All of this area offers fantastic riding & awesome scenery all the way. Melrose is just over (east of) the Flinders Ranges at the head of the Willochra Creek, at the base of Mt. Remarkable. Melrose is the oldest town in the Flinders and as most towns in the Flinders, is based on a old mine site and was started in 1844.

Two day Ride. FRMA basic rides are 2-day rides out of Melrose. By lunch-time we may be a small country town or a camp lunch in a gum lined creek bed. By sundown you will arrive back at the Mt. Remarkable Hotel in Melrose for the night. There will be stops for snacks and coffee/tea. The basic package will cover Friday evening to Sunday dusk. Any additions can be arranged at a modest cost. There is a budget version as well which does not include B&B or evening meals.

Five Day Ride: We are looking at a 5 day ride which will be at a leisurely pace and we would like to hear from any riders who may be interested in such a ride. At the moment it would consist of 6 nights, 5 days, staying at Hotels. The tour may start in Port Pirie (or Melrose) and meander through the Flinders and end back at the start via a loop route. Is there any interest out there for this type of tour.

After our second season we are now looking at setting dates for 2008.

1. Fast riding ‘technical’ for the more full time rider.

2. Medium paced rides for novices and the more mature rider.

On any one ride the riders will hopefully be matched to each other’s preference and abilities. The routes will also vary depending upon rider’s abilities.

FRMCA is also looking at a ‘Adventure’ tour which will be suited to larger bikes at a more leisurely pace. These tours will follow more public roads, but roads/tracks that are hard to find and thus you will get to see places the average tourist/rider would not.

All you need to do is arrive at the starting place, transfer your luggage to our support vehicle, and enjoy the tour. We will allways as a group, allow certain route re-directions on any one day. The end rsult is a hassle free adventure without the heavy luggage, and using our local knowledge.
